What are progressions?

Progressions are sequences of numbers, that are arranged in accordance with a specific formula, that can be used to obtain the nth number of that sequence.

The main characteristic of a progression is that it has a specific formula. If a sequence of number is arranged according to some rule, but not according to a formula, then it is not a progression.

For example,  the sequence of prime numbers is not a progression, but only a sequence of numbers, because, the formula for obtaining the nth prime number has not been obtained. This is discussed in detail in this post.
